Composing is complex in certain ways; personally I feel that there is no correct or incorrect ways of composing, with the exception of grammar of course. Each individual composer possesses their own unique skill that allows them to achieve great potential in their writings. To fully understand this concept one must become the composer, and gain comfort in their specific style of composing.
The article basis it’s topic on Anne, a writing teacher who is a part of an observation on the “composing process”, it is a way to let the individuals see their own writing habits, and detect basic patterns similar to those of other composers. From this observation we can categorize the “composing process” and sort out the different styles that are commonly used. The list of observations in the article itself however, cannot apply to all composers because when it mentions a composer’s “felt sense” only one statement is presented. That being said, each individual has their very own “felt sense” that may differ from another, which is what makes a writer unique. As the author continues, specific questions are asked, and after some research the answers are obtained. As a composer myself I can see similarities in some of my writings, this article’s evidence supports many of its statements and in fact does give me a new perspective on composing.
“Understanding Composing”
How can we as young composers find our comfort zones? Why are feelings of inspiration so hard to come by? Starting out, perhaps Anne may have felt the same way, if so, what would have been her solutions to these amateur feelings of confusion?
In the article the author speaks of recursive writers, personally I feel that writers re-read or refer back to previous statements when they are stuck, unsure of what to write next. Some may call this, “writers block”, a feeling of insecurity inside oneself where the mind enters a state of blankness, and “all seems hopeless.” Well don’t worry it isn’t the end of the world; you just need to refresh your mind. That’s where re-reading tends to help, some find that this habit can help in ways; maybe it’s possible to obtain some sort of inspiration, merely going back to previous statements. This can relate to those of us who continuously return to our topic for assistance; I believe by doing this, we can spark our imaginations somehow and it will allow composers to overcome all obstacles that restrain them from achieving their full potential. In my opinion if you can’t find a comfort zone then writing can become your worst enemy; it can seem impossible to find the right words or phrases, and it will reflect in your work. Each one of us are unique individuals, so not all the same rules apply, some may find comfort where others do not. Therefore it is our own responsibility to reach that place of tranquility where we gain “inspiration” so that in the end writing will become as simple as speaking.
I recommend changing your first summary sentences wording from "Composing is complex in certain ways; personally I feel that there is no correct or incorrect ways of composing, with the exception of grammar of course."
ReplyDeleteto something more like, "Although composing can be complex in certain, I personally feel that there is no right or wrong way to do it." I would do away with the grammar comment, but thats just my opinion.
I agree with finding a comfort zone in writing. Everyone has a certain when it comes to what they like to write about. Some like writing about themselves, their families, or someone iconic. Which ever topic brings out the strength in your writing is the one you should stick too if you truly feel comfortable with it.
