SQR 1

Summary: Sondra Perl’s “Understanding Composing” talks about what you go through and a writer. She talks about things like “felt sense” and “the basic process of paying attention.” In this essay I will go into depth with these two topics.

The way I understood what “felt sense” is, is the weird feeling you get when you see a topic. You automatically feel emotionally and physically connected to it.You start to images, words, and ideas come together. It’s almost as if you all of a sudden get excited to write and really don’t think about it too much. It just comes to you in text form. It is an awesome feeling as a writer.

When talking about “the basic process of paying attention” Perl said it best. She said, “There is less ‘figuring out’ an answer and more ‘waiting’ to see what forms.” I understood that as you really don’t think too much. You just let the topic soak in your mind and let it come to you. After a while you just start to see it happening in your mind. Somewhat similar to felt sense. It feels like it just comes natural to you.

Question: What does the author mean by "the basic process begins with paying attention"?

Response: I understood that it meant that you really don't try to think of what to write down. You really just wait to think of a memory that is related to the topic. I thought that author said it best when she said, "If we are given a topic, it begins with taking the topic in and attending to what it evokes in us. There is less 'figuring out' an answer and more 'waiting' to see what forms."

  1. I think you are right we much read the topic and pay close attention to it, we as individuals have to try to relate to the topic, because elavorate on it and it will make our writing better, and more intersting.

  2. Paying attention is very important in the fact that if we don't our passage won't make sense. Therefore, staying on topic and looking over what we've written is important
